NETS - The SENCo’s role in school self-evaluation of SEND - Kate Browning

Over the last 20 years, Kate Browning has worked as a class teacher, SENCo, Local Authority School Improvement Officer for SEN, and Education Development Officer for NASEN.
Kate now works as an independent consultant specialising in school improvement for SEND across the country. She teaches the National Award for SEN Coordination and facilitates SENCo Network meetings across Leicestershire and Warwickshire.
She writes guidance for SENCOs in leading and managing SEN provision and practice and delivers training for schools, Local Authorities, Teaching School Alliances and Academy Trusts.
She has supported NASEN in delivering national training on the new SEND Code of Practice.

The full-day training in the Autumn term will provide SENCos with a structured approach to whole school self-evaluation of SEN with particular reference to the Ofsted Schools’ Inspection Handbook.
The following x2 half days will provide SENCOs with an opportunity to become confident in this aspect of their role - putting the theory into practice by planning and undertaking SEN self-evaluation activities and planning for improvements with support and in collaboration with other SENCos.
NETs are offering support from our team of nationally trained pupil premium reviewers to support your own schools improvement. These system leaders will help you develop a more effective strategy for using pupil premium in your school.
The outcomes participants can expect from the course:-
The SENCo has a pivotal role to play in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the school’s SEN provision and practice.
• To know what questions you need to be asking to evaluate the quality of education for pupils with SEND and explore the range of evidence available to answer these questions
• To plan and carry out SEND self-evaluation activities with structured support.
• To be confident to contribute to the school’s self-evaluation as to the quality of the education it provides for children with SEND.
To plan for developments in provision and practice required to bring about improvements in outcomes for pupils with SEND.

TS members - £180 per delegate for all sessions
Non TS Members - £220 per delegate for all sessions

22nd November 2017, 9.30am-4pm - plus gap task to prepare for the following session.
5th March 2018 9.30am -12 noon
25th June 2018 9.30am – 12 noon
